What Happens If You Have a Complication After Dental Treatment in Turkey?

If you’re researching dental treatment in Turkey, this is probably the question you actually want answered — not “Is it safe?,” but “What happens to me specifically if something goes wrong after I’m home?” Most clinics don’t answer this directly. We’re going to.

Complications are possible at any clinic — the question is what happens next

No dental clinic, in Turkey or anywhere else, can promise zero complications. Every clinic has some process for handling them when they occur. What varies enormously is how much that process actually depends on luck, and how much of it was designed in advance.

Our position: analysing a potential problem before it happens is far easier than solving it after it happens. Our clinical planning exists specifically to identify the risks a given treatment carries and eliminate them before treatment begins — not to have a good story ready for when something goes wrong.

How we plan a dental treatment to minimise risk in the first place

When a patient arrives, we don’t start with a treatment plan — we start with a full diagnostic record: photographs, a CT scan, and a panoramic film.

From there, each area of your case is examined by the specialist trained in it, not by whichever doctor happens to be seeing you that day:

  • A lesion at the root of a tooth is assessed by an endodontist (root canal specialist) — not a general dentist or a prosthodontist.
  • Implant planning is done by an oral/maxillofacial surgeon.
  • Prosthetic planning (crowns, veneers, full-mouth restorations) is done by a prosthodontist.

At many clinics, one doctor forms an opinion across every one of these areas and the treatment plan is built from that single view. We don’t do it that way, because the specialist in each field is the person who genuinely knows how a treatment in their area should be carried out, what can go wrong during it, and how to resolve it if it does. Every treatment indication at Dental Excellence Turkey is decided only after every relevant specialist has weighed in — not by a single generalist’s opinion.

We tell every patient this directly during their first visit: our goal is to analyse, as far as reasonably possible, the problems that could arise now and over the next ten years, and to begin treatment already built around minimising those risks. Minimising complications isn’t one consideration among several for us — it’s the first one.

What actually happens if a complication occurs

This is the part most clinics skip.

You stay with the same coordinator the entire time. Every patient is assigned one coordinator before dental treatment even begins, and that person stays with you through treatment and any aftercare that follows — including if something goes wrong. You are never explaining your case from scratch to someone new.

This matters more than it might sound. At many clinics, high complication volumes have led to dedicated “complications departments.” If you have a problem, you’re routed there — but the person handling your case often isn’t the person who treated you, and isn’t fully familiar with your specific history. The fix can end up superficial because the context is missing.

At our clinic, your coordinator shares your case in full detail with a group that includes every one of our doctors — not just the one who treated you. The complication is evaluated collectively, the proposed solution is formed from the combined opinion of the clinical team, and your coordinator then explains that solution to you directly.

If the issue is minor, we refer you to a partner clinic in your home country, so you don’t need to fly anywhere. Thanks to our prevention-first protocols, this is genuinely rare.

If the issue needs specialist attention, we invite you back to Antalya and resolve it under warranty — 5 years on lab-made restorations (crowns, veneers), 10 years on implants.

What the warranty does not cover

We want to be upfront about this rather than let a patient discover it later: flights and accommodation for a return visit are not included in the warranty. The treatment itself is covered; travel costs are not. We’d rather a patient know this before booking than be surprised by it after.

FAQ

No. No clinic can honestly promise that. What we can describe — and have, above — is exactly how we plan to reduce the likelihood of a complication, and exactly what happens if one occurs anyway.

Your assigned coordinator — the same person who has been with you since before treatment began.

Only for issues that need specialist attention. Minor issues are handled through a partner clinic in your home country. Genuine complications are resolved in Antalya, under warranty, by the team that treated you.

No. The warranty covers the treatment itself; travel and accommodation costs are the patient's responsibility.

By the relevant specialists for each part of your case — not a single generalist opinion. Root canal-related issues are assessed by an endodontist, implant planning by a surgeon, and prosthetic planning by a prosthodontist.
