With the highest success rate

At Dental Excellence Turkey, diagnosis, planning and integration of the implant surgery in the architecture of a treatment plan are just as important, if not more important than the surgery itself.

Dental Implant Steps: What to Expect During Your Procedure

1. Consultation and planning

During the first consultation, our prosthodontist and oral surgeon evaluates the X-ray and consult with the patient. We use specialized, high-tech 3D imaging to visualize the bone structure and ensure proper conditions. We evaluate bone and gum tissue, and to determine the proper spacing for the implants.

2. Dental implantation

A single dental implant placement to a jaw which has appropriate bone width and density will take approximately 15-20 minutes. Depending on the number of implants to be placed, bone width and density, the whole process may take up to 2 hours. After the surgical procedure is performed according to the protocol, the patient is given advice and instructions for the healing period (necessary time for the bone recover). If no sufficient bone tissue is available for dental implantation, a special dental surgical procedure called bone augmentation or bone graft is provided to replace missing bone tissue.

3. Healing time

During the next 2-3 months (healing time) after dental implantation, the tooth implant heals under the gum, i.e. the dental implant integrates into the jawbone. During this period the patient has to maintain perfect oral hygiene and take medications as instructed.

4. Final restoration

After the healing period, it is time to build the crown, the bridge, or the prosthesis for an entire upper or lower jaw. There are many types of restoration on dental implants from simple solutions (single crown on one tooth implant or bridge on two dental implants) to full restorations (full bridge on 6-8 dental implants, All-on-4 fixed dentures)

5. Check-up

The long-term success of the dental implant and the artificial tooth built on it cannot be guaranteed without careful oral hygiene; therefore, it is very important that the patient maintains, and improves if necessary, his or her oral hygiene. After the prosthetic procedure, patients have a check-up examination at least every year to check oral hygiene and the function and stability of the tooth implant.

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a screw which is made of titanium to replace the root of a tooth. In dentistry, dental implants are used to replace both, a single tooth or multiple teeth. An attachment called an ‘abutment’ is connected to the dental implants after the healing process is over. The abutments are used to attach a dental crown, bridge, or removable denture to the implant fixtures.

Why should I have my Dental Implants in Turkey?

Cost of dental implants in Turkey is around 30 to 40 percent of what the costs in Europe. Other dental procedures are also significantly low-priced. We use the same high quality materials and Implant brands at our dental centre however the cost of living, running a dental clinic and wages are much lower.

How long does the dental implant procedure take?

You will need to make two visits to complete your treatment. For first visit you need to stay 5 days and for second visit you need to stay 8 days. During the first appointment, your surgeon places the implant in the jawbone. Then, the surgeon covers the implant with gum tissue to allow the implant to heal properly. The healing period may vary 3-6 months depending on the patient's bone condition. If you want to wait longer than 3-6 months for your Dental Crowns this will not affect your procedure and is perfectly safe. The choice is up-to-you depending on your available holiday dates and of course your budget.

Am I a good candidate for the implant treatment?

Dental implants can be placed in the jaw of patients of any age (with fully developed jawbones), provided that they have a sufficient quantity and quality of jawbone tissue available. Most healthy individuals that maintain a good oral hygiene are suitable candidates for teeth implants.

Is dental implant treatment risky?

Implant treatment is not an experimental approach; It is a proven, state-of-the-art medical dental technique that has been scientifically tested and used for decades by surgeons and dentists worldwide. Possible risk factors may vary depending on the condition of each patient. Limited wound healing due to poor oral hygiene or pre-existing medical conditions (such as diabetes and osteoporosis) may reduce the possibility of implant remaining in place. At Dental Excellence Turkey, our specialist doctors will evaluate whether dental implants are the right option for you, as there are potential risks with each surgical procedure.

How long will my dental implants last?

Dental implants last for a lifetime in healthy individuals who maintain good oral hygiene.

What factors impact dental implant success?

Gum disease
Healthy gums are a criteria for dental implant surgery, and you can’t have this procedure with active gum disease. Gum disease is an infection that can damage the gums and jawbone. An untreated infection could develop around the implant and lead to failure. See a dentist to treat gum disease before getting an implant.
Smoking
Smoking can also cause dental implant failure because it restricts blood flow to the gums, slowing the healing process. Multiple research studies show that smokers can have a dental implant failure rate up to 20 percent.
Insufficient jawbone
A successful procedure is also dependent on sufficient bone to support the implant. Without enough healthy bone, the surgeon cannot surgically place the implant into your jaw. Bone loss can happen with osteoporosis. This condition develops when bone density decreases. Bones become fragile and there is the increased risk of fractures. Severe gum disease can also cause deterioration of bones in the mouth.
Poor oral hygiene
The ability to practice good oral hygiene after a dental implant also has an impact on the success rate. You are not an appropriate candidate for a dental implant if you have limitations that affect your range of motion or interfere with the ability to thoroughly clean your teeth.
Medical conditions
Dental implant failure is a possibility if you are diagnosed with an autoimmune disease or conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes, which causes the body to heal at a slower pace. Slow healing can prevent osseointegration, where the implant fuses or integrates with your jawbone. The use of certain medications like heartburn medications, antidepressant medication can also lead to dental implant failure.
